"The gift of Dharma exceeds all others"
The Buddhist Chaplaincy Support Group, sponsored by The Buddhist Society, will be the first service to support and promote the efforts of all Buddhists involved in Chaplaincy or outreach work. It is the ambition of the newly formed Buddhist Chaplaincy Support Group (BCSG) to support Buddhist Chaplains in every region in the United Kingdom, to unite Buddhist volunteers and to enable individual Buddhist Chaplains to be a point of contact for the major Buddhist traditions and organisations. The BCSG aims to support and complement the aims and objectives of these traditions and organisations.
In the United Kingdom there is little awareness of Buddhist Chaplaincy. Few posts exist, and very few paid posts exist for Buddhist Chaplains. Given more support and training for chaplains, in addition to awareness raising for organisations that employ chaplains, the Dhamma can be brought to the service of more people in need. The qualities of compassion, equanimity, patience, tolerance and understanding which grow from Dhamma practice are exactly those needed in a good chaplain.
The United Kingdom has many diverse Buddhist communities. Each of these communities are independent and self funding. Through this work these individual communities have the chance to share and unite in the Triple Gem creating a valuable connection of our communities to practice Sangha.
The buddhistchaplains.com website is designed to act as a hub through which Buddhist Chaplains working in diverse fields - and others interested in this work - can come together to support, advise and help each other. You will also find resources and libraries of supporting information, links and lively discussion through our forums, in addition to a calendar of events and training opportunities.
By forming a strong community we can come together to help more people through our ministry and engagement.
